GTA 6 Release Date: Pre-Order Leaks Point to November Launch (2026)

After numerous delays, new GTA 6 pre-order leaks suggest November release date finally locked in, and further delays unlikely

Carpe diem.

After two delays, it looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally entering the home straight. If newly leaked pre-order details are any indication, it seems developer Rockstar is feeling pretty certain about GTA 6's November release date.

Emails reportedly sent out to Best Buy affiliates have started popping up online, seemingly revealing the long-awaited sequel's pre-order campaign begins Monday, 18th May. If this date does prove accurate it would suggest GTA 6's most recent 19th November release date is now locked in, quelling any fears of further delays.

GTA 6 was once set to release in autumn 2025. However, in May of last year, Rockstar announced it was moving the launch to 26th May 2026. Alas, this date didn't stick either, and in November, Rockstar announced it was delaying GTA 6's release once again. GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on 19th November, almost exactly five months after today's reported pre-order date.

Eurogamer has contacted Rockstar to verify today's report.

Today's report follows confirmation that PlayStation has a marketing deal in place with Grand Theft Auto 6's publisher Take-Two, with Sony recently urging PS4 users to upgrade to a PS5 to be able to experience the game on its release. The timing of Sony's message further suggests that Rockstar is now gearing up to promote the next GTA in earnest. The most recent trailer for GTA 6 was released over a year ago, so fans are also hopeful that a third trailer may be released soon.

GTA 6's development has reportedly cost between $1bn and $1.5bn. Take-Two's boss Strauss Zelnick has admitted the game has been 'expensive', though he has not confirmed just how expensive. In April, Zelnick also discussed GTA 6's retail price, and while he didn't give us that all-important figure, he stressed the company's 'job is to charge way, way, way less of the value delivery'. Early last year, a report suggested that GTA 6 could retail for $100.

Elsewhere, Rockstar is facing pressure from MPs and the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) to be more transparent about its actions following the firing of staff members in a move seen by many as 'union busting' in October last year.

What makes this particularly fascinating is that, despite the delays, Rockstar has managed to maintain a level of secrecy around the game's development that has kept fans engaged and excited. This is a testament to the studio's ability to manage expectations and build anticipation, even in the face of setbacks.

In my opinion, the fact that Rockstar has been able to keep the release date stable despite the delays is a significant achievement. It shows that the studio has learned from its past mistakes and is now more adept at managing the complex logistics of game development.

One thing that immediately stands out is the potential impact of the game's release on the gaming industry. With a release date now firmly in place, Rockstar can focus on the final stages of development and marketing, which could lead to a significant boost in sales and a renewed interest in the genre.

What many people don't realize is that the delay has also given Rockstar the opportunity to refine the game and ensure it meets the high expectations of fans. This could result in a more polished and immersive experience, which could set a new standard for open-world games.

If you take a step back and think about it, the fact that GTA 6 is finally set to release in November is a significant milestone for the gaming industry. It represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the developers and a testament to the power of perseverance.

This raises a deeper question: What does the future hold for Rockstar and the GTA franchise? With the release of GTA 6 just around the corner, it's clear that the studio is poised to make a significant impact on the gaming industry once again.

A detail that I find especially interesting is the potential for a new era of open-world games. With the release of GTA 6, we could see a renewed focus on the genre and a push for more innovative and immersive experiences.

What this really suggests is that the gaming industry is entering a new phase, where developers are more focused on creating experiences that are not only fun but also meaningful and impactful.

In conclusion, the fact that GTA 6 is finally set to release in November is a significant achievement for Rockstar and the gaming industry. It represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and it's clear that the studio is poised to make a significant impact on the industry once again.

Personally, I think that the release of GTA 6 will be a turning point for the genre, and it will set a new standard for open-world games. I'm excited to see what the future holds for the franchise and the gaming industry as a whole.
