In a significant development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) reported a 3.19-point drop in pass percentages for Class 12 exams in 2026, down from last year’s 88.39% to 85.20%. This decline reflects broader challenges in student engagement and resource allocation across regions. Over 17.8 lakh students registered, with 15.1 lakh clearing the exam, marking a notable increase in achievement. Girls now outperformed boys by 6.73 points, highlighting gender disparities in academic success. Trivandrum emerged as the region with the highest pass rate at 95.62%, while Prayagraj recorded the lowest at 72.43%, underscoring regional variability. The implementation of a full-scale On Screen Marking (OSM) system in 2026 promises to streamline assessments, reduce human error, and improve transparency.
