Bucks County Community College and Warrington Township have joined forces to bring a captivating outdoor sculpture exhibition to life at Lions Pride Park. This unique collaboration showcases the talent of current students and alumni through three stunning sculptures, offering visitors a chance to vote for their favorite and potentially see it permanently installed in the park. The exhibition, running through August 15, is a testament to the college's commitment to experiential learning and community engagement, while also enhancing the local cultural scene.
The sculptures on display are a result of the college's 3D Arts curriculum, which includes a course on large-scale, site-specific sculpture. One of the featured works, 'Tapestry', is a mixed media creation by students in the Sculpture Foundry class, while 'Birdhouse Bacchanal' is a mixed media masterpiece from the Introduction to Sculpture class. These sculptures, along with two others, will be judged by visitors, with the winning piece becoming a permanent addition to the park.
The exhibition is not just about the art; it's also an educational experience. Professor Jon Burns, who has taught in the 3D Arts program for years, will lead a guided Sculpture Walk on Sunday, July 26. During this walk, Burns will delve into the inspiration behind each sculpture, the materials and techniques used, and how the college's curriculum prepared students and alumni for such ambitious projects. This event is a rare opportunity to gain insight into the creative process and the unique facilities that the college offers.
Carolina Blatt, Ph.D., dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. She stated that the college wanted to engage with the community and highlight its programs, including the foundry, wood shop, and various studios. By showcasing these facilities, the college aims to provide a behind-the-scenes look at its offerings while contributing to Warrington's cultural landscape.
